How to choose a personal trainer in Dubai: questions to ask first

A practical checklist for choosing a personal trainer in Dubai: qualifications, registration, language, location, pricing and how a first meeting should feel.

Start with what you need

Before comparing trainers, write down what matters to you: where you want to train, how many days you can realistically attend, whether you prefer English or Persian, and whether you want in-person sessions at home or in a building gym, or online coaching. A trainer who suits a busy Dubai schedule is more useful than one who looks impressive on paper but cannot fit your week.

Ask to see qualifications and registration

A trainer should be able to tell you which qualification they hold and who awarded it. Ramin holds the Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training, awarded in November 2023, and is registered with REPs UAE at Level 2–3. Whoever you choose, ask for the name of the qualification and the registration body, and check these details with the issuing organisation where you can. Experience matters too: Ramin has more than 20 years in the field.

Check language and communication

Training works better when you can ask questions freely and understand the answers. Ramin coaches in English and Persian, so you can choose the language in which you feel most comfortable. When you meet any trainer, notice whether they listen, explain things clearly and let you ask questions without making you feel rushed.

Understand prices and logistics

Ask for the full price in writing before you commit. At Training Matrix a single session is AED 300, eight sessions are AED 2,000, twelve sessions are AED 2,880 and online coaching is AED 650 a month. Also ask about scheduling, rescheduling, package validity and whether your building gym allows an outside trainer or charges an entry fee. Good answers are specific rather than vague.

Use the first meeting to decide

A first session should help you decide, not pressure you. Ramin offers a free 45-minute first session with no package commitment, so you can see how he works and how the conversation feels. Afterwards, take your time. If you want general background on how much activity is recommended for adults, the World Health Organization fact sheet is a useful independent reference; it does not replace a personal conversation with your trainer.
